Somalia’s Political Culture & Socializatioin

On August 8, East Africa Association for Research and Development organized a roundtable on Somalia’s Political Culture and Socialization with the participation of Dr Shariff Osman. Dr Osman is a social researcher and development specialist, former director of Institute of Somali Studies, advisor of Mogadishu Universities’ rector who got his PhDs in Cultural Studies from Ohio University.

Dr Sharif emphasized on the role of Somali culture in its political landscapes and addressed the roots of conflicts and corruption as the extension of nomadic clan culture into the urban government system. Dr Sharif also provided the significance of faith and literature in fighting with clan-based conflicts and the culture of corruption in Somalia.

Finally, at the end of the conference, Dr Shariff gave advice to the youth participants and their role in reforming the situation. He proposed that in these situations people need a desperate measure for their desperate situations.
